TOPIC: Learn different ways to work the foot on a sock, including where to place the pattern stitches, how to incorporate colors and patterns, and how to measure the foot length for the perfect fit. Each day we will concentrate on each section of the sock until you have a full sock knitted. Intermediate to expert knitting experience required.

Socks are fun to make. You can make your own size unlike buying commercial socks. Comfort is another reason to make your own socks and Donna will show you the best ways from her years of experience.
Shaping is a big deal in knitting socks. Where to start the heel and toe for proper sizing. Learn how to knit socks that fit.
Should I use circular needles? Straight needles? Toe up or calf down? Knitting two socks at once? Heel and toe variations.
Attend this knitting retreat and Donna will answer your questions while helping you along. Your teacher is on site and will be available to answer all your questions.

What will you learn and make?
This schedule is just an outline.
Day 1: Toes, toes, toes! We’ll take a look at several of the most interesting toes from different regions where toe-up socks are traditional. From super-easy to incredibly-challenging, there will be a perfect toe for every level of sock knitter. We’ll also work out numbers for creating a sock that is a perfect fit for you.
In the afternoon, you’ll pick your favorite and knit it on your sample sock.
Day 2: Learn different ways to work the foot on a sock, including where to place the pattern stitches, how to incorporate colors and patterns, and how to measure the foot length for the perfect fit.
In the afternoon, you’ll pick your favorite techniques and knit on your sample sock.
Day 3: Work the heel! There are many different ways to work on heels on toe-up socks and we will discuss a variety of different techniques to choose from.
As on the previous afternoons, you will select your favorite and knit it on your sample. We’ll also talk about how to finish the sock leg with your chosen patterns and colors so you can work on that as you travel home.
Schedule subject to change. Schedule is flexible with possible excursions to a local alpaca farm or spinning wheel manufacturer (time & weather permitting).
This retreat is held in the Sheep to Shawl Studio & Store in Barton, Vermont. We are located in the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) of Vermont USA. Easily accessible one mile off Interstate 91 exit 25. 20 miles south of the Canadian border. We recently remodeled our studio & store with a classroom that can hold 8-10 people. Parking is on site. Come take a vacation and see the views. Meet Donna Druchunas in her local studio farmhouse.
Amtrak stops in Waterbury, Burlington and Montpelier Vermont, each about two hours away by car.
At this time we can not provide transportation to and from the Airport or Train stations.

- Please call for your lodging ahead of time and as soon as possible. Info in the lodging tab above.
- Workshop fees: $325 (USD) Includes handouts, misc supplies, knitting surprises, yarn, mailings, teacher fees and use of the facilities.
- Lodging is paid separately to the establishment you are staying at.
- Workshop Fee Terms: Balance is due one month before the first day of retreat on or before July 16th .2018. Limited to only 8 people. If you cancel, you are responsible for filling your spot for this retreat. Your deposit is transferable to another person. If we fill your spot before Sept16th, 2018 with our waiting list or by you, we will refund your $100 in full. If you cancel after Sept 16th, 2018, your deposit is non-refundable.
TERMS & CANCELLATIONS
*Breakfast & Dinners (may be included with your lodging. Please ask establishment.) are NOT included. We will provide a catered lunch for all three days of the retreat.
**In the unfortunate event that Sheep to Shawl should have to cancel a class for any reason, all fees, including deposits, will be fully refunded in a reasonable time.
***The costs of any travel arrangements you may have made will not be reimbursed. Please be sure you know your cancellation fees for your airlines or lodging.
Food is on your own with the exception of our catered lunch. We have many breakfast and dinner options within a 30 minute drive. Parsons corner is down the block from Sheep to Shawl Studio with hometime rural feel. They serve an excellent breakfast.
Dinners can be found in Newport & Saint Johnsbury Vermont. Please ask for options.
Barton Vermont offers a full service pharmacy, post office, fully stocked grocery store, auto store, two banks with 24hr ATMs, gas station as well as an electric car charging station. These locations are located within walking distance to Sheep to Shawl studio, 2-3 mile walk.
